Kelowna Museums announce the Judges for this year’s BC Wine Label Awards, the signature event of the BC Wine Museum
The British Columbia Wine Label Awards will be held in conjunction with the British Columbia Wine Awards on Thursday October 3, 2013 from 7pm-9pm at the Laurel Packinghouse in Kelowna. The British Columbia Wine Label Awards will be handed out for the Best Red Wine Label; Best White Wine Label; Best Dessert Wine Label; Best Sparkling Wine Label; Best Rosé Wine Label; and Best of Show Wine Label.
Wine labels inform consumers about the appellation and vintage, alcohol content and bottle volume of wine through artistry, inventiveness and ingenuity. Labels are critical to catching the consumer’s eye and establishing brand loyalty.
This year’s judges of BC Wine Labels bring diverse knowledge and experience of the wine industry, marketing, branding, and creative visual arts and design to the 2013 BC Wine Labels Awards.
The judges are:
Harry McWatters, wine pioneer and leader in the British Columbia wine industry for over 40 years
David Hopgood, retired Portfolio Manager, BC Liquor Distribution Branch, Vancouver
Jonathan Rouse, Director , Wine, Food and Tourism and Associate Dean , Okanagan School of Business at Okanagan College, Kelowna
Dr. Donna Senese, Associate Professor, Geography, UBC Okanagan, Kelowna
Cory Stananaught, Sommelier, Level 5, Kelowna
Nataley Nagy, Executive Director, Kelowna Art Gallery, with over 25 years experience in the contemporary visual arts sector in Canada
Tim Turta, Wine Sales Representative and Events Specialist, with over 20 years experience in the Okanagan Wine Industry
Karin Hanna, Graphic artist and designer, Principal of Blue Moose graphic design services, Kelowna
Entries are judged on individual merit as well as competitively in comparison to other entries in that category. Judges will base their decisions on originality, design, colour, and text of the label on the bottle or package. In all categories, the judges will look for visually distinct label designs that best reflect the character of the category of wines. Specifically, they will look to the success to which the winery has connected the overall look of the label and its internal design elements with both the bottle shape/size and the traditional image of the specific wine type.
The British Columbia Wine Awards entries will all be done online, click here to be taken to the registration form. When you enter your wine label and pay for the entry fee, you will submit a high resolution art image of your wine label online to allow us to use this file to circulate to all judges.
